Caffeine

Caffeine is a stimulant found naturally in various beans, leaves and fruits. It can stay in your system for up to 12 hours, so the jolt that you felt after downing a cup of coffee could have a negative effect later in the evening when you’re trying to sleep. Even worse, a 2007 Consumer Reports study found up to 32 mg of caffeine per cup in drinks that were sold as decaffeinated by chain restaurants. This is substantial when you consider that’s the same amount found in most 12-ounce sodas. To avoid sleepless nights associated with caffeine-related stimulation, opt for natural fruit juices or water instead of sugary soda, coffee or tea.
