When headaches strike they can be extremely painful and you may feel as if you’re dying… but sometimes your headache may actually be signaling something quite serious. If you experience severe vomiting, impaired walking ability or difficulty speaking, then you should see a professional. Although uncommon, it could be the result of a stroke, aneurysm or meningitis. The Mayo Clinic also warns of thunderclap headaches that could indicate bleeding in and around the brain. These particular headaches occur suddenly and peak severely within 60 seconds. A computerized tomography (CT) scan or other test can determine the seriousness of your headache symptoms.
