Using plastic containers or plastic bags is one of the most common ways people store foods and leftovers. However, you should avoid heating these food items in the microwave while still in the plastic containers. There is a risk of contamination from chemicals that are disrupted and released when plastic is exposed to heat. These toxins could leach into your foods and lead to dozens of health issues. When possible try to use glass or ceramic plates or bowls instead of plastic. This also goes for heating prepackaged foods that come wrapped in plastic.
