Mensendieck somatocognitive therapy is the technical term for treatment that emphasizes understanding the root cause of the pain and correcting posture, movement and breathing patterns for increased body awareness.
Many patients, according to researchers at the University of Oslo in Norway, experience what’s called “somatic dissociation,” or essentially they block out their pain.
After a year of the therapy, 64 percent had reduced their occurrences of pain and saw significant improvements in posture, gait, movement, sitting posture and respiration.
