The Beneficial Difference Between Vitamins and Minerals!
By Better Health Research Team • Feb 22nd, 2010 • Category: Health E-HintYour body needs essential nutrients that come in the form of vitamins and minerals, but do you know how to tell them apart?
Vitamins are organic compounds that can either be fat soluble—easily absorbed by the body, or water soluble—not easily absorbed.
Water soluble vitamins include vitamin C, folic acid and the eight B-complex vitamins. These can pass through your system quickly so be sure to replenish them often during the day by eating small but nutritious meals.
Fat soluble vitamins include vitamins A, D, E and K and beta-carotene. Fat soluble vitamins are stored in the body tissues. They need the presence of fatty acids to be used efficiently by your body. To avoid depletion of fat soluble vitamins, be sure to include healthy fats like avocado and oils like olive, corn and sunflower.
Minerals can help you build strong bones… help form beneficial blood clots after injury… and give you tons of energy. The most common and critical minerals include calcium, copper, chromium, boron, iodine, iron, magnesium, potassium, sodium, phosphorus, selenium, vanadium and zinc.
Nutritional experts recommend getting most of your vitamins and minerals from your diet, but supplementation is also a simple way to boost your overall health.
