Blueberries are known for their multiple health benefitsBlueberries are considered to be a superfruit for their numerous health benefits. Containing nutritional supplements like vitamin C, vitamin E and fiber, blueberries can help symptoms of urinary tract infections and varicose veins.

A new study has discovered that blueberry juice can also improve memory retention in elderly individuals. According to findings published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, blueberries can serve as a memory enhancer.

Although previous research has hinted at blueberries’ benefits for animal memory, a study had yet to be done on human cognition. Researchers took a group of volunteers in their 70s whose memory was beginning to decline and had them drink 2 to 2 ½ cups of blueberry juice every day for two months. A control group drank a beverage without blueberry juice.

Results indicated that those who drank the berry beverage performed better on learning and memory tests, showing a significant improvement in retention.

"These preliminary memory findings are encouraging and suggest that consistent supplementation with blueberries may offer an approach to forestall or mitigate neurodegeneration," said the report.ADNFCR-1960-ID-19569295-ADNFCR
