Some Feel Alternative Medicines Should Integrate with the Medical World

Medical students are now suggesting that alternative therapies such as nutritional supplements should start being incorporated into normal medical practices for a more effective way of treatment.
A study in the journal of Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine (eCAM) reveals that many medical students believe that alternative therapies can be a beneficial addition to treatment.
Respondents answered that treatments such as nutritional supplements, yoga, massage and acupuncture have the capacity to maximize a patient’s healing ability.
Approximately 84 percent of respondents felt that conventional treatments could benefit by some form of alternative therapy.
Researchers believe that medical students could have an insight that other physicians do not because medicine is always changing and the newest programs could teach alternative treatments that not all doctors are aware of.
"Even with the high prevalence of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) uses today, most physicians still know little about non-conventional forms of medicine," said study author Dr. Michael S. Goldstein. "Investigating medical students’ attitudes and knowledge will help us assess whether this may change in the future."
