According to research published in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association, women who walked more than two hours every week at a brisk pace of 3 miles per hour or faster had a significantly lower risk of suffering a stroke than women who did not.
Researchers found that women who walked at a brisk pace had a 37 percent lower chance of having a stroke and females who walked for more than two hours a week had a 30 percent less risk of suffering the episode.
"Physical activity is essential to promoting cardiovascular health and reducing risk of cardiovascular disease, and walking is one way of achieving physical activity," said Jacob R. Sattelmair, lead author of the study.
