Having a couple drinks on a regular basis may not be as fattening as once thoughtWomen who want to shed excess pounds with the help of an alkaline diet don’t have to feel guilty about having a glass of wine as a new study reveals that it won’t drastically affect their weight.

According to a new study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, women who drink a moderate amount of alcohol have less chance of gaining extra pounds or becoming obese compared to non-drinkers.

After studying 19,220 women in the United States, with 7,346 having no alcohol, 6,312 drinking a little every day, 3,865 ingesting a moderate amount, 1,129 drinking more than average and 568 consuming an excessive amount, it was found that those in the middle range gained the least amount of weight during the 13-year follow-up.

“An inverse association between alcohol intake and risk of becoming overweight or obese was noted for all four types of alcoholic beverages [red wine, white wine, beer and liquor], with the strongest association found for red wine and a weak yet significant association for white wine after multivariate adjustment,” the authors write.ADNFCR-1960-ID-19657160-ADNFCR
