October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and NaturalNews.com has highlighted some all-natural ways to help reduce the risk of getting the disease.

Exercising regularly, eating a healthy, low-fat diet and increasing vitamin D intake through food or nutritional supplements are important health resources to staying healthy and avoiding breast cancer and other disease.

In addition, maintaining a healthy pH balance by alkalizing your blood can help fight cancer since cancer thrives in acidic environments. You can use litmus strips to measure your body’s acidity and your goal should be to be more alkaline than acidic. Make sure your diet is rich in alkalizing foods such as green vegetables, beans, spices, herbs, seeds and nuts. Limit your consumption of alcohol, coffee, meat, fish, poultry and eggs.

Some studies have found that limiting the amount of time women wears their bras everyday can help reduce the risk of breast cancer as well.

Taking black cohosh nutritional supplements and drinking green tea may also help individuals avoid the disease.

According to the American Cancer Society, one woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes in the U.S. One of the best ways to fight it remains being vigilant about breast self-examination and reporting anything unusual to your healthcare provider.

Dr. Matt Chalmers explains that when stressed, many people stop producing hydrochloric acid which in turn results in too much lactic acid and the burning feeling, according to WFAA.com.

As a result, he and other alternative medicine specialists recommend all-natural pink salt which is a hydrochloric acid nutritional supplement made from beets.

"Pink salt allows your body to create its own hydrochloric acid so that you don’t have to supplement with external acid," he said, quoted by the website.

However, the report also suggests not all mainstream practitioners are convinced of the therapy’s effectiveness.

Among recent studies on natural remedies for acid reflux, Saudi scientists have demonstrated the anti-ulcer properties of the herb known as Eruca sativa (EER).

They found the ethanolic extract of EER significantly reduced the basal gastric acid secretion, acidity and ulceration. The extract also significantly replenished gastric wall mucus, the stomach’s protective layer that becomes eroded by the action of stomach acid.

New research has demonstrated the anti-ulcer properties of the herb known as Eruca sativa (EER).

New research has demonstrated the anti-ulcer properties of the herb known as Eruca sativa (EER).

A research team led by Dr. Syed Rafatullah from Saudi Arabia tested the properties of EER on experimentally-induced gastric secretion and ulceration in albino rats.

They found that the ethanolic extract of EER significantly reduced the basal gastric acid secretion, acidity and ulceration. The extract also significantly replenished gastric wall mucus, the stomach’s protective layer that becomes eroded by the action of stomach acid.

The study’s importance stems from the prevalence of gastric ulcers in the global population which negatively impacts the quality of life.

Moreover, traditional treatment options using proton-pump inhibitors treat symptoms rather than causes of the disease and their long term use may lead to adverse side effects.

EER is known as a salad vegetable and spice in the Middle East and Europe. It is believed that plants belonging to the same Brassicacae family possess many medicinal and therapeutic properties including inhibition of tumor growth and liver protection.

The study was published in April in the World Journal of Gastroenterology.
